Palliative care at home: what it covers

Palliative care is often assumed to mean something has been given up on. It is better understood as care focused on comfort and quality of life, alongside whatever other treatment is happening.

The focus is on how someone actually feels day to day: comfort, rest, dignity, and being able to spend time in a way that matters to them. It runs alongside a person’s existing medical care rather than replacing it.

The people providing day to day care at home carry a great deal. Part of what a visiting professional does is show family members how to manage things confidently, and give them someone to ask.
