How to prepare for a home nursing visit

A short guide to what makes a home nursing visit go smoothly, from the space you set aside to the paperwork worth having ready.

MedVek Team

Home nursing works best when the visit can begin straight away rather than starting with a search for documents. A little preparation makes the time more useful for everyone.

Set aside a workable space

A well-lit room with somewhere for the patient to sit or lie comfortably, and enough space for the nurse to move around, is usually all that is needed. Good light matters more than people expect.

Have the paperwork to hand

  • Any current prescriptions
  • Recent test reports or discharge summaries
  • A list of medicines being taken, including anything bought without a prescription
  • Notes on allergies or previous reactions

Write your questions down first

Questions are easy to forget once a visit is under way. Writing them down beforehand means nothing is remembered only after the nurse has left.

After the visit

Notes and documents from the visit stay with the booking in the app, so they can be found later without hunting through paperwork.
